This practice includes privacy and data security compliance, counseling, response, and prevention. Included in the practice are regulatory investigations and litigation arising from alleged violations of applicable data privacy requirements. Attorneys provide advice on cyber security legal, regulatory, and policy issues that affect the clients across multiple business areas and work with companies/clients to develop internal security protocols and advise businesses on the collection and storage of data. Additional duties include ensuring that their clients’ confidential data and intellectual property are secure, maintaining an understanding of emerging threats to the security of IT systems, and related cyber-regulatory efforts that pose unique business and legal challenges to companies/clients, handling claims, litigation, and regulatory investigations arising from data security breaches and any resulting theft, loss, or unauthorized use of confidential or personal information. Additionally attorneys in this practice advise and help lead cyber incident response investigations in partnership with Incident Response Teams, health care privacy/HIPAA compliance, data protection, information security, Internet and computer law, and information law.
